THE SWANVILLE Rural Fire Association was formed in July, 1954.
Culdrum Township, Swanville Township and the Village of Swanville were the first members. The fire department also served Bruce and Burnhamville townships and the Village of Sobieski. The department bought its first fire truck in 1954 for $2262.00 it was a 2

In 1986 a committee was formed to look into purchasing pagers for firemen and 1st responders. Otherwise emergency personal were alerted by a siren or called on the telephone where to report to a fire.

Swanville village hall was added on to, to house the 1954 fire truck. More room was needed for the fire department, the Swanville Creamery had room in their building were they allowed the fire department trucks to be stored. In the spring of 1988 the Fire Association voted to build a new building on property at the north end of DeGraff Avenue. 
Today the fire department building is home to 5 fire trucks, an equipment van,a grass truck and the first response rescue truck. The meeting room is used for monthly meetings for the firemen, responders, and the Swanville Township board.

are about 20 volunteer firemen on the department. These firemen do not get paid for fire calls or mileage to the calls, strictly volunteer.  With help from the surrounding Townships and the Swanville Lions Club the fire department is able to update trucks periodically.
